Turiaso — modern Tarazona in Aragon — was one of the few Hispanian mints granted the privilege of striking bronze locally during Augustus's reign, a concession tied to the administrative reorganization of Hispania following the Cantabrian Wars. The city had been elevated to municipal status under Roman law, and this coinage reflects that moment of civic ambition rather than any imperial directive from Rome.
RPC I 407A is a scarce variant within an already thinly documented series. Turiasan bronzes of this period circulated hyperlocally and rarely traveled far, which accounts for the consistently worn surfaces on surviving examples.
