| 正面描述 | Central field occupied by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in the characteristic Ottoman calligraphic style with interlaced loops and upward projecting shafts. A six-pointed star is positioned to the upper left of the tughra, and a rosette ornament appears to the right. The coin is struck on a broad, slightly irregular flan with a beaded border encircling the entire design. |

Mahmud II ascended the Ottoman throne in 1808 following the violent deposition of Mustafa IV, and Egyptian mint output during the first years of his reign reflects the administrative instability that followed. The billon alloy used for these qirsh issues was notoriously inconsistent — surviving examples vary visibly in silver content, a consequence of Egypt's disrupted bullion supply in the aftermath of the French occupation and the violent power struggle between the Ottomans and Muhammad Ali Pasha, who was consolidating his grip on the province throughout exactly this period.
