Musa ibn Yahya al-Barmaki served as Abbasid governor of Sind during a period when the Barmakid family — despite the catastrophic fall from favor under Harun al-Rashid in 803 — had partially rehabilitated its standing under subsequent caliphs. This tiny fractional piece reflects the persistence of localized silver coinage in the Sindhi monetary economy, where sub-dirham denominations filled gaps that full dirhams were too valuable to occupy in everyday exchange.
