Aanvullende informatie

Gouri Laxmi Bayi ruled Travancore as regent for her adopted son Swathi Thirunal from 1815 until 1829, a period during which the kingdom maintained its subsidiary alliance with the British East India Company. The Panam was the backbone of Travancore's indigenous gold coinage, minted at the Thiruvananthapuram facilities under direct royal authority rather than Company oversight — a distinction that mattered politically to the Travancore court.

The Ayillyam Thirunal designation in the coin's name refers to the birth star of the issuing regent, a naming convention specific to Travancore royal coinage that has no parallel in neighboring princely states.
