Obverse description Central field bearing the Arabic word عادل (meaning 'just' or 'adil') rendered in boldly struck Naskh script, enclosed within a multi-pointed star or geometric border formed by intersecting lines. The interstices of the star are decorated with small pellets or globules, a characteristic ornamental device of Golden Horde copper coinage. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with the design somewhat off-centre due to the hand-hammered striking technique. The surface exhibits a green and brown patina consistent with prolonged burial.
