| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a stylized date palm tree with spreading fronds flanked by two bunches of dates or fruit clusters hanging from the trunk. The tree is rendered in a schematic, archaic fashion characteristic of Bar Kokhba coinage. Hebrew inscription שמעון (Shim'on) appears in the field to either side of the trunk, identifying the issuing authority, Simeon bar Kosevah, leader of the revolt. |

Struck during the third and final year of the Bar Kokhba revolt against Rome, this prutah belongs to a coinage that was almost entirely overstruck on existing Roman provincial bronzes — a deliberate act of political defiance as much as monetary necessity. Simon bar Koseva's administration produced coins through all three years of the revolt, and Year Three issues were struck as Roman legions under Julius Severus methodically retook Judean territory. The revolt's collapse in 135 CE ended Jewish coin production in the region for centuries.
