Obverse description Central field dominated by a tall, stylized palm tree with spreading fronds rendered in low relief, characteristic of Bar Kokhba revolt coinage. Two bunches of dates hang at the base of the trunk on either side. The Hebrew legend SHIM'ON (שמעון) is inscribed in the field flanking the lower portion of the palm trunk. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with the crude hammered production technique of the revolt period.
