Porcius Festus replaced Felix as procurator of Judea around 59-60 AD, arriving to a province already fractured by sectarian violence and the simmering tensions that would erupt in the Jewish revolt of 66. He is best known from Acts 25-26, where he presides over Paul of Tarsus before sending him to Rome. His coinage is among the last struck under Roman procuratorial authority before the catastrophe; within a decade of this issue, Jerusalem was ash and the Temple destroyed.
