Obverse description Within a wreath of olive or laurel branches, the Greek legend ΝΕΡWΝΟC (genitive of Nero) is arranged in three lines across the field, referring to the reigning emperor Nero. The wreath border is rendered in a simple but characteristic provincial style typical of Judaean procuratorial bronzes of the mid-first century AD. The entire design is contained within a circular border formed by the wreath, with no figurative imagery present. The lettering is in Greek majuscules, and on some specimens the first letter N appears retrograde, a known die variety for this issue.
