Obverse description The German imperial eagle, wings spread, swoops down upon a chimera depicted with a bear's head (symbolizing Russia) at the front, a rooster's head (symbolizing France) at the neck, and a bulldog's head (symbolizing England) at the tip of its curled tail. The chimera's lion body crouches in the lower field, with the monogram and date 'MH 1914' inscribed along the base line in the exergue.
