| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse presents a densely inscribed design arranged in three concentric zones, entirely in Arabic Thuluth script against a darkened field. The central medallion, enclosed within an ornate cusped or lobed cartouche, bears the Shahada in three lines: 'There is no deity but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah honor him.' Surrounding this central field is an inner marginal band containing the names and honorifics of the four Rightly Guided Caliphs — Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, Umar al-Faruq, Uthman Dhu al-Nurayn, and Ali Abu al-Nasr — invoking peace upon them all. The outermost band carries a Qur'anic verse (Surah XLVIII, 29), the entire composition separated by plain raised fillets and a beaded border at the rim, consistent with the Sunni epigraphic style adopted by Uljaytu early in his reign. |
