Pougeoise - Bohemond III

Bohemond III ruled Antioch for nearly four decades, longer than any other prince of that crusader state, yet his reign was marked less by military achievement than by repeated conflicts with the Latin patriarchate and a string of politically disastrous marriages. The third of those marriages, to a Byzantine woman named Theodora, drew an interdict from the Patriarch Aimery that briefly suspended all religious services across the principality.

The pougeoise denomination served petty commercial exchange in the Levantine markets — a monetary tier below the denier, circulating alongside Byzantine and Arab fractions in a pluralist monetary environment that crusader mints never fully displaced.
