Potin with crosslets, hairstyle with globules

The Durocasses were a minor Gallic people centered around modern Dreux, in the Eure-et-Loir. Their potin coinage — cast rather than struck, distinguishing it immediately from the hammered silver of neighboring larger tribes — circulated during the decades of Roman encroachment that culminated in Caesar's conquest of 58–51 BC. DT 2508a is distinguished from the base 2508 type by the crosslet arrangement, a subtle die-level variation that Delrieu and Tache use to argue for at least two distinct production episodes within the type.
