The Leuci occupied territory in what is now the Lorraine region of northeastern France, and their coinage reflects a tribe situated at a cultural crossroads between the Belgic north and the more Mediterranean-influenced Gaulish south. Potin — a cast alloy of copper, tin, and lead — was the medium of choice for low-denomination exchange across much of eastern Gaul, and the Leuci relied on it heavily rather than striking precious-metal types.
Cast rather than struck, meaning individual pieces show seam lines and surface irregularities that are features of the manufacturing method, not damage.
