Additional information

The Kadambas of Banavasi were among the earliest dynasties in Karnataka to issue their own coinage, and Krishnavarman II ruled during a period of sustained pressure from the Chalukyas of Badami, who would eventually dismantle Kadamba power entirely by the mid-sixth century. That political fragility may partly explain the modest fabric of this issue — potin, an alloy of copper debased with lead and tin, was the dominant coinage metal of the dynasty throughout its later phase.

At 0.46 g, this falls toward the lighter end of known Kadamba potin units, a variation documented across the series and likely reflecting inconsistent flan preparation rather than intentional denomination adjustment.
