The Meldi occupied the Marne valley northeast of Lutetia, and their coinage was struck during the decade when Caesar's campaigns were systematically dismantling Belgic tribal autonomy. Potin — a cast tin-bronze alloy rather than struck metal — was the preferred monetary medium across much of Belgica precisely because it required no dies, no trained celators, and no mint infrastructure that Roman forces might seize or destroy.

DT 213A is distinguished from the closely related LT 7602 classification by subtle typological differences that remain debated among specialists. Cast potin flans from this region frequently show seam marks from the clay molds.
