Brunei postal orders occupy an odd corner of notaphily — technically instruments of payment rather than banknotes, but collected alongside paper money for obvious reasons. Secura Singapore Pte Ltd, a security printer that handled a range of regional government documents through the 1980s, produced this order under contract for Brunei's postal authority, the year coinciding almost exactly with Brunei's first full years of post-independence administration following the 1984 declaration.
The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature — modest for a country that, by 1986, was administering significant oil revenues.
