Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered royal arms of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, depicting the Polish eagle and Lithuanian Pursuer (Pahonia) in the respective quarters, with the Vasa dynastic shield (a sheaf) at the inescutcheon centre. The entire shield is surmounted by a royal crown. The peripheral legend in Latin characters encircles the arms, interrupted at intervals by decorative stops. The die-engraving is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Polish hammered coinage, with slightly irregular lettering typical of the Bydgoszcz mint.
