Obverse description Central design features a large Maltese cross with crosshatched arms, characteristic of the reign of Emperor Paul I, who served as Grand Master of the Order of Malta. At the center of the cross is a smaller cruciform ornament. The cross is flanked on the left and right by crowned imperial orbs (державы), and surmounted at the top by a crown, with a further crowned orb at the base. The denomination legend ПОЛ-ТИНА is inscribed vertically along the left side of the field, while ГОДА appears vertically along the right side, and the date 1798 is placed horizontally across the upper portion, all in Cyrillic characters. The coin is struck within a raised dentilated border.
