Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing bust of Tsar Nicholas I with short hair and moustache, rendered in high relief with finely detailed portraiture. The legend arcs around the periphery in Cyrillic characters: Б. М. НИКОЛАЙ I ИМПЕР. И САМОДЕР. ВСЕРОСС., reading 'By the Grace of God, Nicholas I, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias.' The truncation of the bust is clean and unadorned. A beaded border runs along the inner rim of the coin.
