Ivan VI was proclaimed emperor at two months old in October 1740, with his mother Anna Leopoldovna as regent. His reign lasted just over a year before Elizabeth I's coup of December 1741 swept the Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel line from power overnight. Coins struck in his name were rapidly suppressed, and many were melted or overstruck — surviving examples represent issues that escaped official recall.
The ММД mintmark places production at the Moscow Mint. Given the political rupture mid-year, attribution of 1741 silver to pre- or post-coup striking windows remains a point of ongoing specialist debate.
