Obverse description Armored bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing elaborate plate armor with decorative pauldrons and gorget, his hair rendered in tight curls. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, separated from the effigy by a beaded inner ring. The portrait is executed in a bold Renaissance style typical of mid-sixteenth-century Polish royal coinage. A small countermark punch is visible to the left of the bust in the field.
