Elbing had been a Hanseatic city of considerable commercial weight before Swedish forces occupied it in 1626 during the Polish-Swedish War. Gustaw II Adolf used the city's mint rights pragmatically — striking coinage in his name but acknowledging local authority enough to keep merchant cooperation intact. The occupation lasted until the Truce of Altmark in 1629, making the window for this issue extremely narrow.
Kopicki 9632 is among the scarcer documented varieties from the Elbing occupation series. The short minting window and the city's reversion to Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth jurisdiction shortly after explain why survivors in any condition are infrequently encountered.
