Obverse description Central field displays the Polish eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to the right, rendered in a bold Gothic style characteristic of late Jagiellonian coinage. The eagle is contained within a plain inner circle. Surrounding the inner circle, the Latin legend in uncial characters reads ALEXANDER DEI G REX, identifying the issuer as King Alexander by the grace of God. The overall design is characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the Kraków mint of the early sixteenth century.
