| Obverse description | Upper register depicts two warships at sea in detailed relief: a steam-assisted ironclad to the left (Battle of Lissa, 1866) and a sailing galleon to the right (Battle of Lepanto, 1571). Below, conjoined busts in right-facing profile of Admiral Wilhelm von Tegetthoff in naval uniform with epaulettes, and Don Juan d'Austria in Renaissance armour with decorative chain. Legends identifying each battle and commander appear in the field flanking the busts, with their names inscribed in the lower exergue. |
