| Obverse description | Within a raised circular medallion set against a rectangular field decorated with rope-knot ornaments at each corner, conjoined busts of Leonardo da Vinci and Cristoforo Colombo facing left, identified by the legend arcing around the rim of the medallion. Below the medallion, at lower left, the turreted Savoy coat of arms flanked by a laurel sprig, with the mint signature JOHNSON MILANO in the exergue of the inner circle. The lower portion of the plaquette bears a multi-line inscription naming the congress, city, and year. |
