Jean the Blind — Jean I of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia — died at Crécy in August 1346, famously ordering his knights to tie his horse to theirs so he could strike at least one blow despite being completely sightless. He had ruled Luxembourg since 1309, and these plaques were struck in the final year of his life, almost certainly before the campaign into France that killed him. The issue thus predates his death by months at most.
