| Reverse description | Full-length frontal figure of Saint John the Baptist, nimbed and bearded, clad in a draped mantle, holding the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) cradled in his left arm while raising his right hand in a gesture of blessing or pointing. The figure is rendered in a naïve late-Gothic style typical of early sixteenth-century Swiss municipal coinage. An inner beaded border separates the central image from the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial script reading S IOHANNES BAPTISTA, with punctuation stops between words. The overall execution is characteristic of hammered silver coinage of the Upper Rhine region. |
