Obverse description Within a double quadrilobe frame, the municipal arms of Solothurn are displayed on a shield, surmounted by a spread eagle. The initials S and O flank the arms to left and right respectively. The entire central device is enclosed by a beaded inner border, with a circular legend in Gothic uncial script occupying the outer field. The coin exhibits the characteristically irregular flan and somewhat weak strike typical of 15th-century Swiss hammered silver.
