Obverse description Ornate baroque cartouche bearing the divided arms of the Republic of Geneva: a rampant eagle to the left and a key to the right, rendered in high relief within an elaborately scrolled shield. Above the shield, a radiant sun containing the Christogram IHΣ occupies the upper field. The circular legend RESPUBL· GENEVEN· flanks the device, with the period stop appearing after GENEVEN at right.

Reverse description A large radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays dominates the field, its central disk bearing the Christogram IHΣ in raised letters with a pellet below. The circular legend POST TENEBRAS LUX — the Reformation motto of Geneva — is arranged around the periphery, interrupted at the base by the date and a rosette ornament flanking it. The overall composition is boldly struck with strong relief against a plain field.
