Pieter d'Or - Johanna and Wenceslas

Johanna and Wenceslas ruled Brabant jointly from 1355, an arrangement that reflected Johanna's hereditary claim to the duchy alongside her husband's Luxemburg dynastic prestige. The pieter d'or — named for its depiction of the apostle Peter — was part of a broader Flemish and Brabantine gold coinage tradition that developed in close competition with French royal issues. Wenceslas died in 1383, making pieces attributable to the later end of this emission among the last to carry both names.
