Philiskos was a Koian physician and associate of the school of Hippocrates, whose name appearing on civic bronze coinage reflects the unusual practice on Kos of magistrate-signed issues — a transparency in municipal administration rare among Aegean island mints of the fourth century. The BMC 36 reference places this among a well-documented but numerically small group of signed bronzes from the island.
