Obverse description Bust of Archduke Ferdinand I facing left, depicted with long flowing hair beneath an elaborate royal crown with fleur-de-lis finials and arched decoration. The effigy shows the ruler in armour with a ruffled collar, rendered in the bold, somewhat flat relief characteristic of early sixteenth-century hammered coinage. The portrait is contained within a beaded inner circle. The circular Latin legend reads FERDINAND D G VNG BOEM R IN HIS, distributed around the periphery of the coin.
