| Obverse description | Central field depicts a crowned lion passant to the right, rendered in relief within a circular inner border. The heraldic lion, a symbol associated with the Duchy of Carinthia, is shown with stylized mane and raised forepaw in the characteristic Romanesque manner. A partial Latin legend surrounds the central device along the periphery, partially legible due to the irregular flan and typical die wear. The overall design is consistent with the high medieval hammered coinage produced at the Friesach mint during the early thirteenth century. |
