Obverse description Frontal bust of an angel depicted between two pellets in the upper field, with a fox's head rendered below in the lower portion of the design. The composition is centrally placed within a plain inner circle, typical of the bracteate-influenced Pfennig coinage of medieval Carinthia. The relief is low and somewhat irregular, consistent with hand-hammered production. No legend or inscription is present.

Additional information

Ulrich III ruled Carinthia during a period of intense dynastic instability — the Interregnum of the Holy Roman Empire (1254–1273) left regional lords operating with unusual autonomy, and coinage from this window reflects that fragmented authority. St. Veit an der Glan served as the ducal mint seat and remained so until the Habsburgs absorbed Carinthia in 1335. The CNA Cb30 type is among the thinner bracteate-influenced pfennigs that characterize mid-13th century Austrian territorial issues, struck before the region's coinage was drawn into the broader Habsburg standardization.
