Additional information

Rudolf III ruled as Duke of Austria from 1298 until his death in 1307, a short and politically unstable tenure during which the Habsburgs were still consolidating their grip on the duchy following Albert I's controversial seizure of power from the last Přemyslid claimants. These small bracteate-style pfennigs were struck in quantity but survive in poor condition more often than not — the thin fabric and crude dies of Vienna mint production in this period left little margin for preservation.
