Rudolf I granted Carinthia to his sons Albert and Rudolf II in 1282 following the defeat of Ottokar II of Bohemia at the Marchfeld — one of the most consequential battles of 13th-century Central Europe. The attribution of these coins to father or sons individually remains unresolved, as minting practice in the duchy did not distinguish between the administrations before and after that transfer.
St. Veit an der Glan served as the ducal capital and primary mint of Carinthia through this period.
