Ottokar IV ruled Styria during a period of acute dynastic instability, ultimately dying without an heir in 1192 — the event that triggered the transfer of Styria to the Babenberg Duke of Austria under the terms of the Georgenberger Handfeste, one of the earliest written constitutional documents in the German-speaking lands. Coins of his reign are among the last issued under independent Styrian authority before that absorption.
