Beschrijving voorzijde Central field features a rearing panther displayed in profile, rendered in the Romanesque style typical of 12th-century Styrian bracteate-influenced coinage. The figure is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, around which a series of small crosses and pellets are arranged at regular intervals forming a decorative border. The outer edge of the coin is further adorned with a ring of crosses interspersed with additional ornamental elements. The overall design reflects the heraldic emblem of the Duchy of Styria, with bold, stylized relief characteristic of hammered medieval silver coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Otakar IV ruled Styria through a period of sustained conflict with the Babenberg dukes of Austria, and his coinage reflects a mint system operating under genuine political pressure. The Fischau attribution connects this issue to a mint site near Wiener Neustadt — territory that would pass to the Babenbergs entirely upon Otakar's death in 1192, when Styria itself transferred under the terms of the Georgenberg Pact of 1186, the earliest known feudal succession treaty in the German-speaking lands.
