Reverse description Central field displays a frontal crowned head or bust of a ruler, rendered in a highly stylized, almost iconic manner with large schematic facial features including prominent eyes and a wide beard indicated by flowing lines. A cross surmounts the crown, and a small heraldic device, possibly a lion or floral motif, appears to the right of the bust. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border on an irregular hammered flan. The crude but vigorous workmanship is characteristic of Viennese mint production under Duke Frederick II in the second quarter of the 13th century.
