Ekbert III of Formbach ruled one of the smaller comital dynasties in the southeastern march territories, and the county itself was extinguished entirely with his death — he died without male heirs, and Formbach passed to the Bishops of Passau. Coins struck under his authority are therefore terminal issues of the dynasty, produced across a roughly fourteen-year window that would prove to be the house's last.
The CNA reference B65 places this within the broader Bavarian bracteate-adjacent tradition, though at 24mm it runs notably broad for its weight class.
