| Obverse description | Facing archiepiscopal bust depicted frontally within a broad, stylized decorative surround of curved foliate or wing-like elements, evoking the Friesach bracteate tradition adapted to a two-sided pfennig format. A prominent patriarchal cross surmounts the head of the figure, which displays a schematized face with pelleted eyes. The design occupies the full field of the irregular flan, with no surrounding legend, the entire composition rendered in the bold, high-relief style characteristic of early 13th-century Austrian ecclesiastical coinage. |

| Additional information |
Friesach pfennigs were among the most widely circulated coins in central Europe during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, accepted far beyond the territories of their issuing authority — Styria, Carinthia, Hungary, and the Adriatic trade routes all saw heavy use of this type. The Archbishop of Salzburg controlled the Friesach mint from 1125, and the coinage became so dominant regionally that "Friesacher" became a generic term for silver pennies across much of the eastern Alpine zone.
Eberhard II held the archbishopric from 1200 to 1246, a tenure defined by persistent conflict with Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor, and by Eberhard's support for the Gregorian reform movement.
