Beschrijving keerzijde Two facing busts side by side, representing the joint issuers Archbishop Eberhard II of Salzburg and Duke Leopold VI of Austria, both depicted in low relief with schematic facial features. Above the busts, a large eight-pointed star flanked by two cross pattée symbols occupies the upper field. Three small pellets are visible between the two busts. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself set within a plain outer border, consistent with the Rann (Brežice) mint coinage of the early 13th century.

Aanvullende informatie

Rann-type pfennigs from Salzburg's early thirteenth century represent a period of intense jurisdictional friction between the archbishops and the secular nobility of the eastern Alpine regions. Eberhard II, who held the see from 1200 to 1246, was one of the more politically aggressive archbishops of his generation — excommunicated twice, a firm ally of the Hohenstaufen, and deeply involved in the territorial consolidation that shaped Salzburg's later autonomy. The attribution to both Eberhard II and Leopold VI reflects genuine uncertainty about the precise striking period within that thirty-year window.
