The counts of Formbach, seated along the Inn River near the Bavarian-Austrian border, were a dynasty in steep decline by the 1130s. The male line was failing, and the county would pass through inheritance disputes to Bavarian and then Habsburg-adjacent control well before the century closed. Coins struck under Dietrich in this window are products of a house already negotiating its own extinction.
