Additional information

These bracteate-style pfennigs emerged from a regional minting tradition specific to the southeastern Alpine duchies, where Carinthian and Styrian monetary practices overlapped in ways that make precise attribution genuinely difficult. The CNA Cr39 classification reflects decades of numismatic debate about which issues belong to Carinthia proper versus the adjacent march territories.

The years 1235–1240 coincide with the reign of Bernhard of Spanheim, whose relationships with both the Babenberg Duke Frederick II of Austria and the Hungarian crown created shifting political pressures across exactly this borderland zone.
