Obverse description Facing bust of Patriarch Berthold V, mitred and wearing episcopal vestments, depicted in a stylized Romanesque manner characteristic of early 13th-century Austrian ecclesiastical coinage. The figure is shown with outstretched hands holding a crozier on one side and what appears to a book or reliquary on the other, enclosed within a beaded or rope-like inner border. The legend BERTHOLDVS runs partially around the periphery of the flan in Latin characters. The strike is typical of hammered bracteate-related pfennig coinage, with irregular flan edges and variable relief.
