| 正面描述 | Frontal enthroned effigy of a bishop wearing a mitre, depicted in a hieratic, schematic style characteristic of 13th-century ecclesiastical bracteate coinage. The figure extends a crozier to one side while the opposite hand is raised in the gesture of benediction. The composition is centrally placed within the round flan, with the episcopal vestments rendered in low relief. |

Berthold II von Pfirt served as Bishop of Basel during a period of sustained conflict between the episcopal see and the burghers of Basel, who were pressing steadily for communal autonomy. His coinage was struck within that tension — the bishop asserting monetary authority over a city that would, within a century, effectively wrest control of its own civic affairs. The Breisgau reference in Wielandt's corpus places some of this production in that region, reflecting the diocese's reach across the Rhine.
