Obverse description Central field displays the Austrian arms — a fess dividing the shield — flanked by the Gothic letters of the duke's name arranged around the design. To the left of the shield, a stylized Gothic letter 'A' is visible, with further abbreviated lettering completing the legend. The whole composition is enclosed within a plain inner circle, the flan being characteristically irregular and slightly off-round, consistent with hand-struck medieval hammered coinage. The relief is low and the die work exhibits the angular, stylized Gothic artistry typical of early fifteenth-century Viennese mint production.
