| Reverse description | The reverse, as is typical for this type of thin hammered pfennig, displays the incuse mirror image of the obverse design, showing faint impressed traces of the central rosette and surrounding motifs. The fields are largely plain with irregular flan edges. No legend or inscription is present on the reverse, consistent with the anonymous Vienna pfennig series of the mid-fourteenth century issued under Duke Albrecht II of Austria. |

Albrecht II — "the Lame" — ruled Austria for nearly three decades despite a crippling illness that left him largely immobile from the 1330s onward. His administration leaned heavily on capable ministers, yet he maintained tight control over coinage policy, using mint revenues to fund costly territorial disputes with the Habsburgs' Bohemian and Hungarian neighbors. The Vienna mint under his reign produced a recognizable and relatively consistent pfennig series, which is why CNA and Luschin cross-references align so cleanly for this type.
