Albert I inherited Austria following the death of his father Rudolf I of Habsburg in 1291, though his authority over the duchy had been established since 1282 when Rudolf divided the Habsburg lands between Albert and his brother Rudolf II — who was soon bought out. The pfennig coinage of this period reflects the fragmented monetary administration of the Austrian duchies, where local minting rights were jealously guarded and output varied considerably between centers at Vienna, Krems, and Wiener Neustadt.
CNA B197 places this type within a sequence attributable to Albert's sole rule after 1283.
